Work LocationRemote Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesGuided by General Assembly resolution 62/141, in which the Assembly established the mandate, the Special Representative is a global, independent advocate for the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children. The mandate of the SRSG is anchored in human rights standards, promoting the universal ratification and effective implementation of core international conventions. In March 2022 and for the first time ever, the Special Representative briefed children on the report presented by the mandate to the Human Rights Council and opened up a space for children to put forward their questions and views. A child friendly version of the report was developed and disseminated widely with partners and with all registered participants of the event (almost 1500). The briefing on the margins of the Human Rights Council created a space for children’s meaningful engagement with the mandate, and the opportunity for the mandate to be accountable to children. Since then, the mandate started to create child friendly version of all of its reports, together with additional child friendly resources that facilitate relevant information to children, while helping educate and raise awareness on different matters related to violence and protection. Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Contractor will contribute to the following tasks: -To design and illustrate child-friendly documents of the mandate’s report to the Human Rights Council and UN General Assembly, of issues related to violence against children, and summarized versions in the forms of infographics to be used to raise awareness on matters related to VAC with children in different regions. -To design and illustrate media and communications assets and materials related with the mandate’s advocacy role with respect to the Pathfinding Global Alliance of countries committed to ending violence against children. Qualifications/special skillsA first-level university degree in art, design, illustration, or related field in combination of 10 years of experiences in illustration. - Experience illustrating children’s books. - Experience in the field human rights. - Experience working on development related issues, including working with protection entities. - Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships.
