5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is looking for an enthusiastic recent postgraduate to undertake a comprehensive review of socio-hydrological processes in the Asian Mega Deltas. The CGIAR Initiative on \"Asian Mega-Deltas (AMD)\" is working to identify, synthesize, evaluate, adapt, and scale technical, institutional, and policy innovations through a range of activities focused on improving deltaic production systems, developing nutrition-sensitive deltaic agrifood systems, de-risking delta-oriented value chains, facilitating inclusive deltaic food-systems governance, and introducing evidence-based delta development planning.

As part of the AMD initiative, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is leading work on hydrological modeling in the Ganges and Mekong Deltas to understand, evaluate, and develop sustainable management strategies for agricultural water management, tackling salinity and support sustainable groundwater development. We intend to work closely with country partners in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Vietnam to empower local institutions and stakeholders against anthropogenic and climate risks. The review and analysis will form a key component identifying significant socio-hydrological interactions and feedback governing deltaic systems.

OBJECTIVES:

We are seeking a research consultant to comprehensively review the socio-hydrological dynamics of Asian mega deltas. The primary objectives include:

Review existing research and literature on socio-hydrological studies and analyze their status in the delta regions. Identifying key challenges and vulnerabilities in the context of water resources, climate change, and socio-economic factors. Summarizing best practices and lessons learned in socio-hydrological adaptation.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Performing and assisting in an extensive review of relevant literature, including academic papers, reports, and publications related to socio-hydrology and water management in deltaic regions to summarize key findings. Assisting in broad literature review and hydrological analysis using secondary datasets. Preparing and presenting the results in geospatial maps or other visual representation methods. Assess the water and agriculture systems in delta regions and draw the relationship between climate and anthropogenic impacts. Assisting in evaluating the social and hydrological dynamics and underlying relationships between different systems or sectors in target delta regions. Identify research gaps and areas where further investigation is required. Support the researchers in producing a comprehensive report summarizing the findings, insights, and recommendations.
