DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The general objective of the contract is to provide IT support for: (1) data management of the RCC-SAS database, (2) development and implementation of climate products, and (3) adaptation of various developments for operational use. Activities will include:
a) To assist with the integration of new data into the RCC-SAS database;
b) To implement automated reporting of data quality information from the various networks integrated into the RCC-SAS database;
c) To update the quality controls implemented in the database;
d) To assist in the calculation and visualization of statistics and/or climate normals on the RCC-SAS platform;
e) To contribute to the operational implementation of subseasonal forecasts for southern South America;
f) To update the RCC-SAS seasonal forecast products;
g) To implement the transfer of forecast products and their integration into the web portal;
h) To contribute to the report on metrics to characterize the performance of climate forecasts;
i) To expand the datasets in the RCC-SAS web services;
j) To document new data accesses to the RCC-SAS web services. Participate in project activities that require your advice;
k) Carry out other relevant duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Degree in Computer Engineering, Systems or equivalent (minimum 5 years of study).
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years' experience.
- Experience of computer support for research and development projects.
- Knowledge and experience of working with meteorological databases.
- Experience of working with national meteorological and hydrological services.
- Experience of using R or Phyton language for statistical analysis and different types of environmental data.
- Experience in environmental database design and implementation; knowledge of SQL.
- Experience of programming in Javascript and PHP.
Other requirements
Due to the nature of the work, only candidates currently based in the countries that integrate the RCC-SAS (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile) will be considered.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English and Spanish (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other official languages of the WMO would be an advantage.
