DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Head, Space Systems and Utilization (SSU) Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Provide continued user support for access to and utilization of satellite data:
- Work towards improving the availability of global LEO products;
- Work towards global coverage of LEO Direct Broadcast Systems through DBNet initiative;
- Assist in the transition to new DBNet services; contribute to relevant meetings;
- Contribute to the discoverability of satellite data through WIS;
- Contribute to efforts towards Standardized Data Formats in the framework of WIS;
- Global Access to data and products on the core WIS network;
- Support WIS activities to ensure end-to-end monitoring of satellite data in the WIS (WDQMS);
- Liaise with GODEX-NWP to ensure coordination with WMO;
- WIGOS 2040 Vision update, CGMS Risk Assessment, and Gap Analysis;
- Assist Regional Satellite User Groups in preparing for new-generation satellites;
- Support the update of the space-based component of WIGOS Vision 2040;
- Support follow-up activities to the CGMS WG annual Risk Assessment Workshop;
- Support the development of an initial baseline for backbone observations for CGMS members;
- Support the update of WMO Statement of Guidance (SoG) and High-Level Guidance (HLG) documents;
- Support the development of core satellite data as per Res. 1;
- Support the development of core satellite data as per Res. 1 and engagement with Space Agencies;
- Support the update of the Annex to the WIGOS Manual detailing core satellite data and CGMS baseline;
- Support to the preparation to the Core Satellite Data Workshop for Nowcasting (June-July 2025).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Master's degree or Equivalent in meteorology, oceanography, earth, physical or natural sciences, or closely related fields.
Experience
10 years of experience in Space Agency activities, international collaboration in the context of CEOS and/or CGMS, and WMO Space Programme activities.
Other requirements
Space based observing systems, satellite operations, ground-station operation, data exchange.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.
