DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Head, Space Systems and Utilization (SSU) Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties to support the development of training resources on the use of satellite data and products for priority hazards in in RA-III and RA-IV in support of the UN Early Warnings for All (EW4ALL) initiative. These resources will be created in the native languages of the regional VLab Centres of Excellence (Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, and Costa Rica). This will include:
(1) Coordinate the contributions from each VLab Centre of Excellence (CoE) to ensure a variety of hazards are covered for RA-III and RA-IV, considering the global priority hazards identified during the rapid assessment and the regional priority hazards identified by regional initiatives;
(2) Provide an example set of training materials (template) to be used by VLab Centres of Excellence;
(3) Organize an event in conjunction with the NOAA Satellite Conference 2025 with the aim to share the experience/best practices of the development of training resources among trainers in regional VLab CoEs;
(4) Prepare a close-out report for the project;
(5) Assist regional VLab Centres of Excellence and the WMO Secretariat with all the activities listed in the table below;
(6) Carry out other duties, as required. QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Master's degree or Equivalent in the field of engineering, meteorology, oceanography, earth, physical or natural sciences, or closely related fields.
Experience
10 years of experience in utilization of satellite data and products,
education and training, international collaboration, particularly focusing on capacity development in the least developed countries; having experience of development, implementation and evaluation of satellite training, participation in the activities of the WMO-CGMS VLab and the WMO Satellite Data Requirements Group in RA-III and RA-IV.
Other requirements
Proficiency in utilizing online platforms and employing modern methods in education and training, comprehensive understanding of receiving, processing, and visualizing satellite data and its utilization for a wide range of application areas.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of both English and Spanish (both oral and written). Knowledge of other languages spoken in RA-III and RA-IV would be an advantage.
