DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Director of the Regional Office for the Americas and D/RAM and the ENANDES/ENANDES+ Projects Manager (RAM/PO), and in coordination with the WMO Energy Unit in Geneva.
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
a) Support ongoing ENANDES energy and WEF nexus activities in member countries, ensuring effective liaison with relevant stakeholders;
b) Facilitate technical support to ENANDES+ project on National Renewable Energy Atlases;
c) Define, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of a climate service toolkit for energy and the water-energy-food (WEF) nexus in a pilot country under the ENANDES+ project;
d) Define, coordinate, and supervise the implementation of a demonstration product for solar radiation forecasting, utilizing both simulation and observational data in Argentina or in one of the other ENANDES+ countries;
e) Organize capacity development activities, including an in-person workshop and online technical webinars, in collaboration with regional partners;
f) Prepare a document outlining the regional gap analysis and needs assessment for energy services to support a long-term, climate-resilient energy transition in the region. Additionally, oversee the preparation of technical documents for activities 1-4 mentioned above;
g) When necessary, represent the ENANDES(+) project at regional events and facilitate the dissemination of activity results at both international and regional levels. QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced University Degree (preferably Doctorate) in environmental sciences, applied meteorology and climatology, or related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum relevant work experience of ten (7) years.
- Extensive experience in defining and implementing tailored weather, water and climate services for the energy and water-energy-food nexus sectors.
- Extensive knowledge on the application of weather and climate services for the energy sector.
- Extensive experience with preparation technical and strategic documents to support renewable energy transition.
- Experience in organizing capacity development courses and workshops.
- Previous work experience in the United Nations and with WMO Members in South and Central America will be an advantage.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English and Spanish (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of GEO would be an advantage.
