Working under the supervision of the IUCN Green List Senior Programme Officer of the Protected and Conserved Ares Team (PCA), and Conservation Action Programme Officer (ECARO), the as Conservation Action Project Officer is responsible for supporting the coordination, organisation and implementation of the Vjosa Wild River National Park (WRNP) activities in Albania (50%) and related projects in the Western Balkan region, including implementation of the Green List Standard (50%). JOB DESCRIPTION GENERAL RESPONSIBLITIES

The Conservation Action Project Officer will take the lead in developing and implementing the governance structure for the Vjosa Wild River National Park. This will involve careful planning, organization, and execution of various project tasks to ensure smooth progress and alignment with project objectives. Additionally, the Conservation Action Project Officer will assist in coordinating the project partnership by organizing meetings with stakeholders, partners, and consultants to encourage collaboration and synergy.
The Conservation Action Project Officer will also be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the IUCN Green List in the Western Balkans. This includes contributing to the Green List process for the Vjosa Wild River National Park in Albania, actively promoting its adoption and recognition in the region through policy advocacy, communication initiatives, capacity building, and training activities. These efforts will play a crucial role in advancing nature conservation objectives and bolstering biodiversity protection throughout the region.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

The Conservation Action Project Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

โ€ข Project management and administration;
โ€ข Supporting the development of the Governance structure for Vjosa Wild River National Park;
โ€ข Supporting IUCN coordination of the project partnership, including convening meetings of the partners, consultants and stakeholders;
โ€ข Knowledge management, including sharing knowledge for freshwater conservation in the region and beyond and developing capacity with regional teams and implementers;
โ€ข Coordination of the implementation of the IUCN Green List in Western Balkans;
โ€ข Support the Green List process for Vjosa Wild River National Park in Albania;
โ€ข Contribute to the promotion of the Green List in the region, through policy advocacy and communication, capacity building and training activities;
โ€ข Support the EUCANA regional hub and coordination between the Green List in Western Balkans and the Mediterranean regions and other IUCN programmes, projects and initiatives in the region;
โ€ข Contribute to and support other projects as requested.

Please note that these Terms of Reference outline the main responsibilities and duties of the post. However, in a constantly evolving organisation such as IUCN, staff members are expected to be flexible in their approach to their work and willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably assigned to them but are not part of their regular Terms of Reference.

SALARY

The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from 28.800 EUR to 35.999 EUR subject to deductions for social security contributions and health insurance, and before tax.

The Conservation Action Project Officer will be required to travel frequently, specifically in relation to project implementation. REQUIREMENTS โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in environmental sciences, biodiversity conservation, natural resource management or comparable studies;

โ€ข At least five years of experience in a relevant position;

โ€ข Experience in all phases of the project management cycle;

โ€ข Experience working in or with protected and conserved areas;

โ€ข Experience working in the Western Balkans region, particular advantage will be experience in working in Albania;

โ€ข Understanding of global, regional and EU nature conservation policies;

โ€ข Good knowledge of nature conservation challenges and ongoing processes relevant for Western Balkans region;

โ€ข Knowledge of IUCN tools and standards;

โ€ข Proven ability to work under pressure

โ€ข Experience in partner relations and multi-stakeholder processes;

โ€ข Ability to work in an international environment and interact with different cultural background;

โ€ข Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other languages spoken in the region is an asset;

โ€ข Ability to cope with a varied workload and flexible working hours;

โ€ข Willingness to travel within the region, sometimes at short notice;
