Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The Peace, Security, and Resilience (PSR) Section of the Policy, Programme, and Intergovernmental Division supports UN Women to fulfill its triple mandate in contexts impacted by terrorism and counter terrorism, and to support the UN system efforts to accelerate the implementation of the women, peace, and security (WPS) commitments, including as set out in the Beijing Platform for Action and the Pact for the Future, Action 19.ย
UN Women, through its PSR Section, is supporting countries to ensure gender equality is mainstreamed in counterterrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism (CT/PVE) efforts of the United Nations and Member States. Such work is being done at country and global level.ย
To support this work, UN Women is looking for a communication consultant that can provide support for organizing events (communication), capture substantial contributions, and translate them into reports and communication products for a variety of audiences.ย
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic communication, partners engagement and outreach;
Develop an Outreach Plan and develop partners contact list/database;
Prepare communication and advocacy products for internal and external web pages;
Develop content and communication products for various audiences (stories, infographics and other features);ย
Organize meetings with partners, as required;
Identify, develop, distribute and evaluate a variety of media materials in multiple, appropriate formats (Press releases, feature stories etc);
Ensure rapid and accurate dissemination of information to the media, UN Women partners, and other appropriate audiences;
Produce a brief summary report with recommendations for UN Women outreach, communication and engagement work in the area of CT/PVE, including a chapter on due diligence and do-no-harm approach.
In case travel is required, UN Women PSR Section will cover all travel related expenses and amend the contract as required.
Deliverables
Deliverable 1 โ Strategic Communication & Outreach Plan, incorporating new commitments in the GEWE and UN Women updated CT and PVE strategy
Deliverable 2- Social media package for UNGA80 and WPS Month (Sept and Oct 2025)
Deliverable 3- Web pagesโ updated text and products โ minimum of two productsย
Deliverable 4- Donors engagement products โ not more than two pages with info graphic as applicable

Recruitment Qualificationsย
- Masterโs degree or equivalent in Communication, Journalism or Public Relations, or a related field is required;
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree;
- Five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in outreach and communication;
- Demonstrated experience in planning and coordinating large events;
- Experience in gender equality and women's empowerment;
- Experience working in the UN system is an asset.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English and French is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset.
