Background The United Nations (UN) is committed to supporting Eritrea in its development goals and promoting peace, security, and human rights. The UN Country Team in Eritrea collaborates across various agencies to tackle critical issues such as poverty reduction, health care, education, and sustainable development. Effective strategic communication is essential to share Eritrea's challenges and successes, raising awareness of its development needs and fostering collaboration. 2. Specific Responsibilities and Tasks Under the overall guidance of the Resident Coordinator, in close consultation with the Head of the RCO and UNCT members, the Communications Consultant will be expected to undertake the following: Strategic Communications Planning โข Identify key audiences and tailor communication strategies. โข Support planning and conceptualizing events or advocacy activities. โข Coordinate visits to Eritrea by various delegations. โข Maintain and update the UN Eritrea website. โข Maintain a photo database highlighting sustainable development issues. Content Development โข Create high-quality content for press releases, articles, and social media. โข Design visually appealing materials (e.g., infographics, brochures). Media Relations โข Build relationships with local and international media outlets. โข Coordinate media events and respond to inquiries. Stakeholder Engagement โข Collaborate with UN agencies and partners for a unified communication approach. โข Organize workshops on effective communication strategies. Monitoring and Evaluation โข Monitor and evaluate communication strategies and adjust as necessary. โข Prepare regular reports on communication activities. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. Minimum of 2 years in strategic communications, preferably in the UN or international development is required. Proven experience in graphic design and social media management is required, Strong writing and editing skills are required, Excellent interpersonal and communication skills is required. Knowledge of digital communication strategies is required. LanguagesProficiency in written and spoken English is required; proficiency in other UN languages is advantageous.
