The UNEPโ€™s Latin America and the Caribbean Office is located in Panama City, Panama and has offices in Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico and Uruguay. The UNEP Country Office in Brazil is a key development partner of the Brazilian government and supports national and sub-national public and private sector institutions and civil society to achieve a more sustainable and inclusive society by creating a new relationship between people and nature, and between economic growth and environmental sustainability. A proper communication and dissemination of UNEPโ€™s messages, programmes, initiatives and reports are a key step to achieve the organization purposes. This position is located in the United Nations Environment Programme, at the Brasilia Duty Station. The Communication Manager will be supervised by the UNEP Brazil Office Representative and will work at the House of United Nations in Brazil, in Brasรญlia, from Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Under the supervision of the UNEP Brazil Office Representative and with the support of the UNEP Brazil Office, the tasks and responsibilities of the Communication Manager will include: - Advises the institutional communication work of the Office; - Coordinate the website and social media maintenance, update and content; Provide and share information on UNEP Brazil activities to be published by the global and regional UNEP communications network; - Work with print and broadcast media to generate proactive news coverage. Monitor media and establish the overall capacity of the Country Office to initiate and respond to media contacts with required speed and skill. Give innovative and creative solutions to sensitive institutional communications issues and develop crisis communications strategies when needed; - Establishes effective media cooperation, liaising with government, relevant organizations, other intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations; - Coordinate and implement the institutional communications planning and processes to support UNEP's mission, strengthen the visibility of the organization and raise public awareness on environmental issues in Brazil and in Portuguese Speaking countries - Drafts and edits speeches, statements, op-eds, articles, talking points and other written materials for public and intern dissemination and advises the Representative and the country programme team on the effective use of tools of mass communication. - Participates at the UN Communication Group with the guidance of the Representative; - Translate news, stories, videos, briefings, factsheets, brochure and other communication products in both English and Portuguese when required; - Translate from English to Portuguese communication content or documents in general, including training and other purposes. - Translate from Portuguese to English documents for publication, use by the Representative or any UNEP Country Office Brazil staff member, training and other purposes; - Revise texts in any of the two languages mentioned above developed by and for the Communication Unit or the Brazil Country Office. The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO), located in Panama City, works closely with the 33 countries of the region and its activities are integrated into the Medium-Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). Qualifications/special skillsACADEMIC: - Bachelorโ€™s degree in Journalism, Communications Studies, Public Relations, Design or other related fields is required. - Masterโ€™s degree in Journalism, Communications Studies, Public Relations, Design or other related fields is desirable. PROFESSIONAL: โˆ’ At least three (3) years of relevant experience in the field of communications, campaigns or advocacy is required. โˆ’ Knowledge of Adobe softwares such as Acrobat X Pro, inDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is desirable. โˆ’ Experience in international organizations or UN system is desirable. โˆ’ Good knowledge of online software for social media and communications, such as Canva, Mailchimp, Mlabs is desirable. โˆ’ Experience with translations of documents in Portuguese and English is desirable.
