Mission and objectivesUNICEF works to protect the rights of children and adolescents in Turkiye since 1951. UNICEF's programme in Turkiye focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children in the areas of education, child protection, health care, social policy, adolescents and youth, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. 1 month task for a UN Volunteer supporting UNICEF around World Childrenโs Day (WCD) and 16 Days of Activism Campaigns. The work plan includes before, during, and after the campaign days, covering both online and offline activations.
ContextThe 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign (between 25 November โ 10 December) for the elimination of violence against women and girls. Every year, the UNITE Campaign focuses on a specific theme. The campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women and girls. In 2025, the campaign focuses on ending digital violence against all women and girls. World Childrenโs Day, marked on 20 November each year, is UNICEFโs Global Day of Action for children, by children. It is a day to raise awareness, amplify childrenโs voices, and encourage young people to advocate for their rights and a better future. Every year, World Childrenโs Day highlights a specific theme connected to childrenโs rights and well-being. The campaigns invite children, young people, adults, influencers and celebrities to take part by sharing their voices, ideas, and actions to help reimagine a safer, fairer, and more inclusive world for every child. UNICEF, in cooperation with UNV, has established a special programme initiative engaging UN Volunteers to support UNICEFโs communication efforts, particularly around 16 Days of Activism and World Childrenโs Day activities in UNICEF Tรผrkiye Country Office in Ankara. The selected national UN Community Volunteer(s) will assist UNICEF Communication team in Ankara in: โข Supporting UNICEF Communication team to organize local events, online campaigns, and use social media to amplify messages . In addition, selected UN Community Volunteer(s) will engage in creative activism through art and community outreach, raising awareness and promoting stories.
Task DescriptionThe UN Volunteer will support UNICEF Tรผrkiyeโs Communication team for 1 month in the planning, implementation, and wrap-up of the activities planned. Under the supervision of the Communication Manager and the Communication team, the UN Volunteer will contribute to content development, event support, partnership engagement, and monitoring efforts. โข Support the timely production of communication and advocacy materials in line with UNICEFโs messaging and campaigns. โข Assist in creating and localizing digital assets (graphics, reels, videos, branded templates) for UNICEF Tรผrkiyeโs social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, X/Twitter, Facebook) and support video editing, adaptation, and subtitling of content. โข Contribute to the preparation and organization of UNICEFโs events (e.g., forums, gatherings, or gala) including invitations, venue decoration, roll-ups, and technical checks. โข Contribute to the development of social media calendar and pre-event engagement activities (teasers, countdowns, polls, Q&A). โข Support social media activations, including engaging with celebrity/youth supporters and amplifying content across digital platforms. โข Capture quotes, photos, and videos during events and forums for real-time and post-event use. โข Assist in monitoring UNICEFโs communication outputs across media and social platforms. โข Collect and organize coverage (screenshots, links, clippings) from traditional and digital media. โข Support in drafting a short impact report summarizing reach, engagement, and visibility metrics. โข Maintain updated documentation of assets, reports, and media contacts relevant to the campaign. โข Other related tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as needed. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: - Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December). - Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. - Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org), - Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. - Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Living conditions and remarksUN Community Volunteers are expected to be recruited locally and work within their communities. For this specific assignment, if the selected UN Community Volunteer is required to travel or attend specific events, travel and daily meal expenses will be covered by the host entity. Upon successful completion of the assignment, UN Community Volunteers will receive a UNV Certificate of Service. This is a volunteer assignment, not employment. By sharing your time, energy, and talents, you can support communities in need and become part of something greater than yourself โ a global movement for peace, development, and humanitarian aid. Volunteering strengthens trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among citizens, and it can promote a sense of belonging and purpose. The UN Volunteer will be based in Ankara and will be working from the office three days a week to connect and collaborate with staff members. The UN Volunteers are responsible for arranging her/his own housing and other living essentials within UNV contract period. UN Volunteer supporting SPI in Europe and Central Asia region: The support provided by the UN Volunteer for tasks supporting the host UN entity in the region of Europe and Central Asia is a Special Programme Initiative (SPI) by UNV. SPIs respond to volunteer-specific needs of the United Nations system and donor entities. They are established by specific policy documents that address the desired programmatic aims and broader SDGsโ outcomes in line with UNV guiding principles. UN Volunteers for this SPI in the Europe and Central Asia region are governed by the particular conditions set out in their offers and contracts.
