Girl Up is a girl-centered leadership development initiative, focusing on equity for girls and women in spaces where they are unheard or underrepresented. We believe when girls and women are in positions of influence, they work to create a more just and equitable world for everyone.
Girl Up operates a global network of regional affiliates and serves 195,000 girls in 152 countries. We deliver evidence-based leadership development training through our girl-led Clubs, programs, and events. As members of a global movement, girls are a force for social good โ connected to a Community of their peers who are advocating for policy change and advancing gender justice.
Founded in 2010 and hosted by the United Nations Foundation, Girl Up welcomes girls and youth of all gender identities to start a Club and join our movement to advance gender justice worldwide. The Chief Program Officer focuses on Girl Up global programs and engagement. Leading Girl Upโs efforts to drive and support global action towards achieving gender justice. The Chief Program Officer will help drive organization-wide strategic priorities and oversee Girl Upโs global impact programming, policy initiatives, strategic partnerships, and communications. The Chief Program Officer is an integral member of Girl Upโs executive leadership and reports to the Chief Executive Officer, Girl Up.
This position is based in the U.S. or U.K. remote.
Essential Functions
Contribute significantly to Girl Upโs strategic planning process and advance organizational strategic priorities as part of Girl Upโs executive leadership team.Manage Girl Upโs global program strategy and execution including all learning platforms and training areas as well as strategic oversight of the Girl Up Community, programs and measurement & evaluation efforts, providing high-level guidance and support to the Global Programs Team.Lead Girl Upโs global communications strategy and execution, providing high-level guidance and support to the Global Communications Team.Lead Girl Upโs partnerships with UN agencies and oversee grantmaking and collaboration opportunities with the UN globally.Lead Girl Upโs partnerships with global NGOs and global coalitions centered on girlsโ leadership and gender justice issues, in collaboration with Girl Up affiliate partners.Inform and support global policy initiatives across Girl Upโs global community, within global coalitions and through global advocacy efforts within the UN system.Support programming and communications strategy and efforts of Girl Up Global Affiliates.Support Girl Upโs targeted global growth into new regions through support of programming and communications efforts of external contractors and global staff (UNF employees).Contribute significantly to the ongoing review and strengthening of Girl Upโs diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) action plan particularly as it pertains to global programming and communications efforts.Represent Girl Up at external events and speaking engagements, and to current and potential Girl Up funding and other partners.Work closely across Girl Up leadership team members to ensure a strong flow of information and a consistently cohesive organization.Support the development of new program and communication opportunities.Other duties as assigned.Selection Criteria
Bachelorโs degree required. Advanced degree in relevant field preferred.Commitment to Girl Upโs Mission and Core Values.Minimum 15 years of experience in achieving organizational programmatic results with strong track record of success including 5-7 years of demonstrated management and executive leadership experience.Experience with global girlsโ leadership development programming and strong commitment to global gender equality.Advanced experience with driving organizational programming and/or communications strategy.Advanced experience leading motivated, high performing remote-hybrid teams in innovative, fast-paced environments.Commitment to fostering an anti-racist and inclusive workplace required.Ability to appreciate, embrace and advance diversity and have experience working with globally diverse and multi-cultural populations.Demonstrated ability to lead teams and management-level roles within a growing, dynamic organization.International grassroots movements experience preferred.Demonstrated ability to lead measurement and evaluation strategies.Highly effective at change management.Demonstrated ability to successfully engage diverse audiences, including youth, board members, high-level donors, community-based and corporate partners, and other stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and grow strong talent and to promote cross-cultural understanding in the workplace.Strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects on time and within budget.Excellent team-player with the ability to build consensus across different stakeholders.Self-starter with strong entrepreneurial spirit.Multi-cultural, global experience required.Fluency in additional languages preferred.Ability to travel at least 30%.Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.Ability to meet regular attendance / tardiness policy.Benefits & Compensation
