Reporting to: Central Asia Regional Coordinator Work percentage: 100% Grade: P1 Expected start date: 11 August 2025 Type of contract: Fixed-term (46 months with possibility of renewal) Closing date: 08 June 2025 BACKGROUND The IUCN Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECARO) promotes IUCNโs mission and implements its Programme in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. With a long-term goal of conserving biodiversity and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, IUCN has developed a credible network of partners and a robust project portfolio in Central Asia. In light of an expanding project portfolio, growing membership, and increased recognition in the region, IUCN is establishing an operational office in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan.
IUCN is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to join the ECARO team in Tashkent as a Project Officer. The successful candidate will work under direct supervision of the IUCN Central Asia Regional Coordinator and in close collaboration IUCN ECARO Thematic Programmes.
The Project Officer will be responsible for coordinating and managing projects under the Central Asia Programme. The tasks of the Project Officer will also include support to programme and project development, and cooperation with IUCN Programme Centres, Members, Commissions, and partners. JOB DESCRIPTION GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
โข Project coordination, management, and reporting;
โข Support the development of new projects in Central Asia in coordination with IUCN teams, members, experts and partners;
โข Support the development of IUCN knowledge standards and tools;
โข Promote actively IUCNโs work in the region;
โข Liaison with IUCN members, commissions, donors, and partners.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Project implementation
โข Coordinate and manage projects under the Central Asia Programme, with a particular focus on the project โOne Health in Nature Conservation in Central Asia โ Enhancing landscape resilience to zoonotic disease emergence by consolidating nature conservation systemsโ;
โข Ensure high-quality project planning and implementation, including preparation of work plans, technical and financial reports, partnership agreements and service contracts for provision of goods and services;
โข Ensure that all project-related entries on the IUCN Project Portal are accurate and up-to-date;
โข Undertake logistical and administrative tasks related to project implementation, including the organisation of capacity building events, technical workshops, meetings, preparation and dissemination of meeting material (i.e. minutes), liaison with partners;
โข Oversee the work of external experts and implementation of field activities.
Fundraising and project development
โข Support the identification and assessment of new funding opportunities in the region;
โข Contribute to the development of high-quality project proposals in line with IUCNโs strategic priorities;
โข Identify potential partners and support the establishment of strategic partnerships;
โข Assist in the preparation and submission of Expressions of Interest (EoIs), Calls for Proposals, and Calls for Tenders.
Other tasks
โข Contribute to the development of IUCN knowledge standards and tools, and support their proper dissemination and uptake among partners;
โข Support the development and dissemination of project-related communication materials and content;
โข Represent IUCN at national, regional, and international events;
โข Carry out other relevant tasks as requested and agreed upon with the line manager.
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from 27,997 EUR to 34,996 EUR before tax. REQUIREMENTS โข Bachelorโs degree in environmental science, biology, or other related fields;
โข Minimum of 5 years of experience in area-based conservation;
โข Experience in all phases of the project management cycle and reporting to donors;
โข Good understanding of global and regional nature conservation policy and frameworks;
โข Familiarity with IUCN standards and tools for protected and conserved areas;
โข Excellent organisational and networking skills, team-oriented attitude and ability to work independently;
โข Experience in partner relations and multi-stakeholder processes;
โข Proven ability to work under pressure;
โข Willingness to frequently travel within the region, sometimes at short notice;
โข Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required;
