Organizational Setting

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applicationsโ€™ objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes. This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies.

These programmes are supported by eight laboratories in Seibersdorf, three in Monaco and one in Vienna. They support and implement activities that respond to the developmental needs of Member States through applied research and development, training and capacity-building, and technical and analytical services.

The operating environment is dynamic, interactive and participative with continuous inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy- and decision-makers, as well as counterparts in Member States and in the international development community.

Main Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Associate Project Management Officer works in close collaboration with the Project Management Group (PMG) to monitor the progress and implementation of projects, manage project processes and ensure compliance with established governance procedures, including the transition phase as well as all necessary steps required to achieve effective project closure.

As part of the PMG, the incumbent provides technical expertise, supporting and implementing capital projects including the ReNuAL2 project, Seibersdorf Visitorโ€™s Centre project and any other capital projects requiring project management support as and when required.
The Associate Project Management Officer conducts analyses, prepares and edits reports and assists the Project Manager in producing high quality written materials, including interoffice memoranda, donor reports, and project governance documentation for the Project Board and policy-making organs.

Role

The Associate Project Management Officer is (1) a collaborator, providing input and support for effective project management; (2) a team member, monitoring and evaluating the progress and result of work and outcomes; (3) a communicator, drafting and editing written materials; (4) a liaison with key stakeholders on project implementation, governance and reporting.

โ€ข Ensure schedule and budget of the projects in relation to their original baseline;
โ€ข Ensure and track compliance to project management processes for the duration of project implementation, transition and project closure;
โ€ข Track actions related to the implementation of projects, ensuring key deliverables are monitored and deadlines are met;
โ€ข Ensure compliance with project governance procedures, reporting to senior management and key stakeholders;
โ€ข Analyse project management processes and performance, identify challenges and risks for PMG attention;
โ€ข Build and manage consistent and sound record keeping;
โ€ข Draft project correspondence, documentation and reports etc according to corporate communication guidelines ensuring consistency and adherence to deadlines, completeness and correctness;

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Bachelor's Degree - International relations, Project Management, Public Administration, Communications, or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum of two years of experience in project management or coordination in government and/or international organizations
  • Experience with the management and monitoring of complex projects within the UN system, including project governance and report writing is an asset.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relations with staff at all levels, with representatives of Member States and with external counterparts required.
  • Experience in international cooperation with proven ability to participate effectively in a multinational and multidisciplinary team with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

    Remuneration

    The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $55163 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 27361*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.         • Candidates appointed to posts in the Professional and higher categories are subject to IAEA rotation policy and their maximum tour of service shall normally be seven years.
