The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Legal Directorate (JU) - Legal Corporate Department (CORP) - Governance and Regulatory Matters Division (GR) its headquarters in Luxembourg, an (Associate) Lawyer specialized in regulatory matters *.
This is a full-time position at grade 4/5 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose
The purpose of the role is to assist the Head of Division, together with other legal advisers, in providing legal support in the area of regulatory matters, in order to support compliance with the Bankโs statutory and operating framework and advise on other matters falling within the competence of the Division.
Operating Network
You will report to the Head of Division and cooperate with the other lawyers of the team. Your work will involve activities of various complexity and recurring as well as non-standard nature (taking instructions from the Head of Division on sophisticated and complex legal matters).
Accountabilities
Provide legal advice and analyse banking regulations, standards and guidance being prepared or having been adopted by the EU and/or other international organisations and/or regulators affecting EIBโs activities in particular in the prudential area (CRD/CRR) and other related regulatory and supervisory topicsAssist EIBโs Services and Management in assessing to what extent EU and international banking and financial regulations should be applied by EIB and EIB Group as best banking practice (BBP) and in implementing the EIBโs BBP frameworkRepresent the Bankโs Legal Service in internal working groups (e.g. meetings, task forces) to deal with specific issues related to EIBโs BBP framework and other related regulatory topicsDevelop and maintain constructive relationships with the Divisionโs counterparts, both within and outside the BankMake legal presentations to various internal audiencesProactively keep up to date with legal developments in the area of prudential regulatory matters and supervisory practice and share relevant knowledge in order to provide EIB with informed and updated perspectivesWhile you are expected to work mainly on regulatory matters in line with the description above, depending on the team workload and availability, you may also be asked to work on broader institutional and governance issues within the scope of the responsibilities of the Division.
Qualifications
University degree in law (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor), preferably in law of one of the EU Member States At least 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the field of international and EU banking and financial regulationsExperience in an international law firm, a supervisory authority and/or experience in working with the EU institutions/agencies and/or regulators would be an advantageSound knowledge of the areas of law that relate to the work of the Division, in particular prudential regulation and supervisory policies and methodologiesSound knowledge of the main aspects on institutional and substantive EU lawGood knowledge of the Bankโs objectives, policies and procedures in the relevant domainExcellent knowledge of English and/or French (***), with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.Competencies

(***) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
