Within IFC, support for the development and expansion of infrastructure solutions across a wide range of sectors is one of the key strategic priorities. The Global Infrastructure Department (CNG) works closely with IFCโs regional infrastructure teams to finance and provide technical guidance to companies in energy, transport, telecoms & technology, municipal & environmental infrastructure and mining sectors from IFCโs own balance sheet and through mobilization of other capital.ย
The Equity team (CNGES) within the Global Infrastructure Department operates in close collaboration with regional infrastructure teams and regional departments to (i) formulate IFCโs strategy for investing equity and mezzanine financing across the infrastructure sectors including in infrastructure funds, (ii) engage in business development, (iii) execute transactions, and (iv) manage assets from origination until exit.
IFC is seeking an (Associate) Investment Officer for CNGES, to be based in IFCโs Washington DC headquarters. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing overall support to IFCโs infrastructure equity & mezzanine business across all emerging markets, with a focus on infrastructure funds.ย ย
This role requires strong and demonstrated technical skills in structuring, negotiating and executing investments in private equity funds, direct equity & mezzanine transactions, asset management, as well as experience assisting senior leadership in strategic and corporate initiatives in infrastructure equity sector. The (Associate) Investment Officer will report to an Investment Officer in the Global Equity Team and work closely with Global Equity Head (GEH).
Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a three-year term appointment.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The role and responsibilities of the (Associate) Investment Officer will include but will not be limited to:
New Business
โข ย Perform due diligence and structuring of infrastructure fund investment projects globally as part of the investment team.
โข ย Conduct industry research, assist with semi-annual infrastructure funds mappings and participate in business development activities in line with investment themes;ย
โข ย Coordinate and provide substantive input to the development of investment themes and strategies, to target and grow IFCโs equity & mezzanine business based on its current portfolio, trends in countries and sectors, and IFC strategies (corporate, sectors, and regions/countries);
โข ย Participate as team member in supporting teams executing equity and mezzanine investments;ย
Asset Management
โข ย Actively monitor the portfolio of infrastructure funds. This includes: (i) reviewing quarterly and annual reports of infrastructure funds and preparing internal reports and valuations based on periodic financial statements, project progress reports, and other information submitted by client fund managers; (ii) participating in annual meetings and other meetings with fund managers; and (iii) coordinating with IFCโs Legal department and Portfolio Manager to make portfolio decisions on fund matters as needed.
โข ย Take responsibility for equity & mezzanine asset management, including working closely with IFCโs regional deal teams and sector specialists, and investee managements;ย
โข ย Support IFC value creation at investee companies;
โข ย Provide expertise, guidance and support to teams managing smaller equity investments in the regional equity portfolios;
โข ย Conduct analyses & modeling of IFCโs equity & mezzanine portfolio, including sectoral and regional portfolio construction, profitability, etc.
Leadership and Knowledge Sharing
โข ย Support a comprehensive program for increasing the knowledge and learning of equity & mezzanine investments and infrastructure funds execution and asset management;
โข ย Assist the Global Equity Head on corporate and strategic initiatives.
โข ย Ensure quality control of work products;
โข ย Disseminate CNGโs equity culture and lessons learnt.
Selection Criteria
โข ย Commitment to the World Bank Group and IFC's mission, strategy and values;ย
โข ย Minimum master's or equivalent degree from a reputable university; preferably with a major in economics, finance, or accounting. MBA from a leading international institution would be a plus;ย
โข ย At least 4-6 years of working experience in a reputable institution in fund investments (fund of funds), equity investments, corporate finance or con sulting;
โข ย Experience in sourcing, negotiating and executing equity & mezzanine transactions or investing in Private Equity Funds;ย
โข ย Network of contacts among infrastructure companies, private equity and institutional investors;ย
โข ย Excellent interpersonal skills and openness to feedback;ย
โข ย Ability to develop innovative solutions and challenge the status quo to build the business;ย
โข ย Excellent Excel and PowerPoint slide building skills
โข ย Recognized as a team player, strategic thinker and thought leader;ย
โข ย Strong written and verbal communications skills; Fluency in English essential, additional languages is a plus;
โข ย Ability to collaborate closely with World Bank, and other development finance institutions, commercial financial institutions, and institutional investors;ย
โข ย Ability to deliver high quality work within deadlines and to meet team objectives;
