Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The incumbent reports to the National Human Rights Officer. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Assistant Human Rights Officer will be responsible of the following duties: 1. Participates in identification of human rights issues, planning and implementation of interventions to tackle the identified issues around prevention and protection of women and girls with disabilities against violence. โ€ข Contribute to identification of human rights issues, emerging and evolving challenges regards to prevention and responding to violence against women and girls with disabilities, including refugees on both banks of Dniester/Nistru River, as well as response and capacity gaps, and assist in the development of a response strategy; โ€ข Contribute to the planning, implementation and monitoring of the project activities following a human-rights based approach and with attention to empowerment of women and girls with disabilities to participate in countering Gender Based Violence (GBV); โ€ข Assists in mobilizing marginalized groups, especially women with disabilities, and their representative organizations in ensuring decision making process, including as part of the Office technical assistance provided to state institutions; 2. Assists in partnership building, advocacy and awareness raising. โ€ข Support the development and strengthening of strategic partnerships in the area of human rights promotion, with a focus on human rights of persons with disabilities, especially women, in the Republic of Moldova including the left bank of Nistru river; โ€ข Assists in liaising with government, NHRI, NGOs, Civil Society Organizations, UN agencies and other partners as part of the mandate of the office of protecting and promoting human rights of persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups; โ€ข Establish, maintain and nurture regular contacts with civil society organizations engaged in the promotion and implementation of human rights of persons with disabilities, UN norms and international human rights standards on both banks of Nistru river, and provide them with relevant support; โ€ข Supports the organization of awareness raising activities related to human rights situation of marginalized groups in Moldova; 3. Contributes to reporting and developing analytical documents and papers. โ€ข Contribute to the production of project reports, briefings, analytical documents and provide inputs to documents, especially with regards to human rights situation of marginalized groups, such as persons with disabilities; 4. Work ExperienceFor candidates who hold a first level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent), a minimum of two (2) years of experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required. No experience is required for candidates who hold an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent). Experience in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, including of women with disabilities is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. Romanian and Russian are required. Bulgarian and Ukrainian and Romany are desirable.
