Org. Setting and ReportingThe UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level - support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDG's. The Assistant Communications Officer is responsible for conducting a wide range of tasks. Depending on the organizational setting, these may include assisting with the implementation of communications strategies, media relations and monitoring, digital communications and campaigns, activities to strengthen information integrity, content production, and analytics, outreach and advocacy, and UN radio news and programming and technical activities. The Assistant Communications Officer maintains relationships with managers, other communications specialists, and relevant personnel in the entity to seek and exchange information, assist with the coordination and delivery of communication activities, support reporting processes and training activities, as necessary. The Assistant Communications Officer also builds and maintains external relationships with key stakeholders, such as United Nations agencies, funds and programmes, government and diplomatic officials, civil society and community representatives, digital/community influencers, vendors, media, academia and think tanks, to consult and coordinate activities, exchange information and best practices, and support organizing events and campaigns. THIS IS A FIXED TERM LIMITED POSITION. The position is located in the United Nations Resident Coordination Office (RCO) in Thimphu, BHUTAN and reports to the Senior Development Coordination Officer, Strategic Planning and RCO Team Leader. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the incumbent, will perform the following duties: โ€ข Assist in the implementation of communications strategies to raise awareness, drive engagement, demonstrate the entity's impact, and build support with target audiences. โ€ข Assist in the monitoring and analysis of traditional, social, and digital media, media mapping and activities fostering relationships with media outlets. โ€ข Assist in the planning and coordination of press conferences, briefings, and media events. โ€ข Assist in drafting engaging and impactful narratives and messaging to reach target audiences across different channels and platforms. โ€ข Support the development of talking points, press releases and media lines, including in crisis situations and on sensitive issues. โ€ข Assist in the drafting and production of compelling digital and social media content, including videography, photography, web stories, reports, and infographics. โ€ข Assist in creating content, interviews, news and programming, for UN and/or community radio channels and podcasts. โ€ข Create and moderate engaging and platform-optimized content, including live content, tailored for social media and other digital platforms to advance digital communications priorities and campaigns work. โ€ข Draft and disseminate internal communications content across relevant platforms. โ€ข Assist in developing and implementing communications campaigns that engage and have measurable impact with target audiences through appropriate channels and platforms. โ€ข Assist in the development of creative campaign concepts, content, and materials, including digital and print assets, social media posts, email communications, and multimedia content โ€ข Assist the development and coordination of strategic communications partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to reach target audiences and maximize impact โ€ข Assist in delivering in-person outreach and advocacy strategies and campaigns to engage target audiences and advance UN priorities. โ€ข Contribute to the monitoring and analysis of digital media data using analytical tools and provide statistical analysis to track performance and impact. โ€ข Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. โ€ข Contribute to the execution of research methodologies to monitor, analyze, and report on risks to information integrity across online and/or offline information sources. โ€ข Assist in the identification and cataloguing of incidents, patterns and threats of misinformation, disinformation, misinformation, and hate speech. โ€ข Keep abreast of the latest trends in communications and maintain expertise in relevant and emerging technologies. โ€ข Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and discreet handling of sensitive information in compliance with the UN data privacy, security requirements, and standards. โ€ข Monitor, analyze and report on communications strategies, approaches, and activities to assess their performance and impact. โ€ข Assist the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of digital media to evaluate impact and inform content creation. โ€ข Assist the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of digital media to evaluate impact and inform content creation.
