Background\n\n\n\n

International Detention Coalition (IDC) is a\nunique global network of over 250 civil society organisations and individuals\nin more than 75 countries, thatcoordinates with members and partners on advocacy,\nresearch, coalition and capacity building, to eliminate immigration detention\nand advance rights-based alternatives to detention (ATD). Role Purpose\n\n\n\n

To develop and deliver regional advocacy\nstrategies to achieve the mission of IDC in the Asia Pacific region.\n\n\n\n

ย \n\n

Role Summary\n\n\n\n

IDC's Asia Pacific Regional Manager will\nwork laboratively with key team members and stakeholders to develop and\nimplement regional strategies to achieve IDC's mission of advocating to secure\nthe human rights of people impacted by and at-risk of immigration detention.\nThese regional strategies will focus on influencing law, policy and practice to\nreduce and ultimately end immigration detention, and implement rights-based\nATD.\n\n

This will involve working with IDC\nmembers and key partners in the region to develop strong advocacy strategies,\nas well as engaging with governments, local authorities, civil society, Regional\ninstitutions, UN institutions and other key stakeholders in the region. The Asia\nPacific Regional Manager will work closely with IDC's Executive Director, all\nthe staff in the region and other keyteam members to\nlink national, regional and global initiatives and activities, and to ensure\neffective and strategic teamwork within IDC.\n\n\n\n

Role Responsibilities\n\n\n\n

ย \n\n

Strategy, Advocacy and Leadership\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nDevelop regional and national advocacy\nstrategies, in partnership with regionally-based IDC members and other\nstakeholders in the Asia Pacific region specifically targeting Thailand and\nMalaysia.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nProvide guidance to members and other national\nstakeholders on the development and implementation of national-level advocacy\nstrategies to reduce and end immigration detention, as well as implement\nrights-based ATD.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nEngage in strategic advocacy at national,\nregional and, where appropriate, global levels, and ensure that advocacy at\nthese levels is coordinated.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nContribute to the development and implementation\nof IDC's overall organisational strategy and key priorities.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nIn laboration with communications team\nmembers, communicate globally and regionally about the work and developments in\nthe region, including through written outputs, and social and digital media\nstrategies.ย ย ย ย ย ย \n\n

Relationships, Representation and Networking\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nLead in coordination activities for relevant\nregional networks\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nDevelop and strengthen national and regional\nnetworks of members, and relationships with representatives of governments, Regional\nagencies, UN agencies, civil society, leaders with lived experience of\ndetention, and other key stakeholders, including through participation in\nexisting coalitions and groups where appropriate.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nDisseminate and share resources, information and\nlearning with members, partners and key stakeholders.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nRepresent IDC at relevant regional (and where\nrelevant national or global) fora, events and exchanges.ย \n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nCoordinate the development of the Regional Peer-learning\nPlatform andย promote exchange activities\nin the region.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nBuild strategic laborations with key members\nand other stakeholders, including grassroots and community-based groups.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nPromote and support the involvement of leaders of\nlived experience of immigration detention in the region.\n\n

Expertise\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nMaintain an up-to-date understanding of national,\nregional and global developments on immigration detention, ATD and related\nareas.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nManage and contribute to IDC led research and\nmapping projects in the region.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nContribute to policy consultations, reviews and\ndevelopment of standards on immigration detention and ATD.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nLead and contribute to the development of policy,\ntraining and communications materials to support advocacy, in laboration\nwith partners and leagues.\n\n

ย \n\n

Project Development, Fundraising and Management\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nScope and develop proposals for national and\nregional projects and events and implementaccordingly.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nActively seek funding opportunities for the\nregion, identifying and building relationships with potential sources of\nfunding and working with the Executive Director, the Funding and Development\nOfficer and other team members to draft applications and pursue funding\nopportunities.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nDevelop and oversee project budgets in\ncollaboration with leagues.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nCoordinate the recruitment of regional staff, consultants\nand interns when needed.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nProvide line managementto\nregional team members\n\n

Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nDevelop and update work plans and record key\nactivities, outcomes, and learnings.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nEnsure that national, regional and global work\nare coordinated and connected.\n\n

โ—ย ย ย ย ย \nLead the completion of funder monitoring reports\nfor regional projects and contribute to core organisational monitoring,\nevaluation and learning.\n\n
