5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our office in Washington DC, The Hague, or London. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position. To be eligible for this position in US, you must be a resident of DC, Maryland or Virginia at the start of employment.

About the Program:

The Managing for Results (MfR) team ensures WRI is equipped to understand the contribution of its programs to long term impact for people, nature and climate and country transitions, aligned with the institutional Results Framework and five year strategy. MfR serves as an institutional resource, ensuring that programmatic teams are meeting internal and external standards for good practices in planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (PMEL).

Over the next five years MfR will accelerate a โ€œstep changeโ€ in PMEL practices and culture at WRI to enhance programmatic effectiveness and demonstrate impact. The specific goals of the step change in PMEL are to have:

1. Robust, evidence-based theories (ToC) of change for programs and projects that are easily accessible for staff and partners to facilitate shared understanding and learnings

2. Intentional Pause and Reflect cycles to review ToCs and M&E data, discuss the learnings and changes needed to achieve the results in the strategic plan

3. Sufficient PMEL specialist capacity in every WRI team to support timely, evidence-based, adaptive management

4. WRI results that are easily verifiable, where contribution is well understood and WRIโ€™s commitment to address social inequalities is reflected in the results

5. Iterative cycles of evaluation that support ongoing reflection and learning, systematization and publication of lessons learned.

Job Highlight:

Reporting to the Global Director, Managing for Results, you will shape WRI's impact by overseeing the development of a comprehensive annual workplan aligned with WRIโ€™s institutional Results Framework and Theories of Change, as well as reporting results to core donors annually based on this workplan. The results reporting process includes the determination of โ€œTop Outcomesโ€ submitted by program and operations teams and rigorously reviewed against a set of robust criteria. These processes require working across the Institute with global programs, country offices and core functions through a complex global process and constructing an institutional knowledge database. You will integrate equity into your work.
