The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has an abundance of information about human mobility: With offices in almost every country, IOM is trusted by its Member States for deep domain knowledge and field expertise. IOM has strategic partnerships with other United Nations (UN) agencies and stakeholders in the UN Migration Network. It works directly with a wide range of beneficiaries and enjoys a place at the forefront of data protection efforts within the UN system.
The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) gathers and analyses data to disseminate critical multi-layered information on the mobility, vulnerabilities, and needs of displaced and mobile populations that enables decision makers and responders to provide these populations with better context specific assistance. Currently DTM includes four standard components for quantifying displacement and mobility โ Mobility Tracking; Flow Monitoring; Registration; and Surveys โ each comprising
various methods and tools, that can be applied, adapted and combined as relevant for a particular context and data needs.
In particular, DTM is developing a route-based research framework to guide the rollout of a global route-based research strategy to enhance the understanding of migration dynamics across regions. The new framework involves the optimization of the Flow Monitoring methodology to strengthen the statistical robustness of cross-border data and analysis, as well as conducting in-depth investigations into the drivers and barriers to accessing available migration pathways along the most
travelled routes.
Located in the IOM London office, under direct supervision of the DTM Data Officer (London, UK) and in close guidance of the DTM Statistical officer, the successful candidate will integrate into the DTM AKO unit. The AKO unit of the global DTM support team is tasked with direct support to country and regional offices to ensure that the quality of analytic outputs is maintained in line with the global DTM standards, and are fit for purpose based on the audience and information needs at the country level. The AKO unit is also engaged in exploring the analytic potential of DTM data through thematic workstreams including children on the move, climate and natural hazard induced mobility, gender and displacement/migration, urban displacement/migration, data science and ethics and the humanitarian, development and peace nexus. This position will be based within the London team and will be focused on supporting the methodological design of DTM standard components aiming to strengthen the statical robustness of the data collected across over 90 field operations. - Under the overall supervision of the Global DTM Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Data Officer (DTM), the successful candidate will support statistical and data analysis activities, and assisting the global Information Management activities as part of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) activities.Learning Objectives

analysis methods for field operations.

used to support DTM assessments and analysis for displaced and mobile populations. - ย Support data analysis activities, including data cleaning, pre-processing and manipulation, and
contribute to the compilation, consolidation, validation and dissemination of statistics on
migration flows and forced displacement. - Ensure the relevance and alignment of DTM's methods and tools to global standards and best
practices, including the International Recommendations on IDP Statistics (IRIS), Joint Intersectoral
Analysis Framework (JIAF), IASC Operational Guidance on Data Responsibility in
Humanitarian Action, UN Recommendations on Statistics of International Migration and
Temporary Mobility, and other relevant frameworks. - ย Draft, review and edit relevant statistical products, including outputs related to migration flows
and route-based research, such as reports, web content and visual data/products (dashboards,
infographics), ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance with IOM's editorial standards. - ย Support with the development of tools, guidance and methodological material, that may include
questionnaire modules, training materials, codebooks and data analysis templates. - ย Support revision and review of active survey methodologies, assessment forms and reports as
required. - ย Perform any other tasks as assigned
ย EducationMasterโs degree in Statistics or Demography from an accredited academic institution; University
degree in the above fields with one year of professional experience in data or statistical field.ย Experienceยโข Experience with applied statistics, in particular descriptive and inferential statistics;
ย Skillsย
โข Knowledge of IOM and IOM DTM standards, programmes and operations.
โข Understanding of migration statistics and operational data on flows, including different data
sources.
โข Experience working with data cleaning, pre-processing, and manipulation techniques to ensure
data quality and reliability;
โข Understanding of data collection and analysis within the humanitarian context;
โข Understanding of different data collection methodologies related to migration/displacement
flows and population mobility;
