ContextThe 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Each year, the UNiTE Campaign focuses on a specific theme, calling on individuals and communities worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence. In this context, UN Women, in cooperation with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, has established a Special Programme Initiative (SPI) to engage UN Volunteers in supporting UN Womenโs effortsโparticularly the 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women and Girls (EVAWG) campaignโacross Europe and Central Asia (ECA). The selected national UN Community Volunteers will assist the UN Women team in Europe and Central Asia in the following areas: Awareness, Advocacy, and Outreach: Supporting UN Women in designing and implementing online campaigns, and leveraging social media to amplify messages on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) in the context of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS)โHumanitarian Action (HA) agenda. In addition, the selected volunteers will engage in creative activism through art and community outreach, raising awareness and sharing powerful stories that promote gender equality and end gender-based violence.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of UN Womenโs Regional Policy Advisor on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), the UN Community Volunteer will: - Review and compile evidence from existing assessments, studies, and data sources related to Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG), access to justice, and the WPSโHumanitarian Action (HA) agenda to inform communication and advocacy strategies. - Support the design and implementation of online campaigns and social media initiatives to amplify messages on EVAWG within the WPSโHA context. - Assist UN Women in organizing awareness-raising activities on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and access to justice in the framework of WPS-related international actions, in line with UN Womenโs planned initiatives. - Contribute to amplifying messages about EVAWG through UN Women-managed social media campaigns by sharing information with peers, online communities, and engaging volunteers and civil society organization (CSO) partners to broaden outreach. - Support the creation of content and stories that promote EVAWG messages in alignment with WPS commitments. - Perform any other related tasks as required or assigned by the supervisor.

Living conditions and remarksUN Community Volunteers are expected to be recruited locally and work within their communities. For this specific assignment, if the selected UN Community Volunteer is required to travel or attend specific events, travel and daily meal expenses will be covered by the host entity. Upon successful completion of the assignment, UN Community Volunteers will receive a UNV Certificate of Service. The UN Volunteers are responsible for arranging her/his own housing and other living essentials. Summary of this national UN Volunteer Entitlements: โข Private insurance by CIGNA โข Certificate of Service โข Experience with UN programmes โข There will be no payment, stipend, or any allowances. Note: The selected candidates should complete the mandatory pre-assignment documents including medical clearance, beneficiary form with original signature, and certificates for three online UN courses, following UNV guidance, as soon as possible (within three days maximum) of receiving the selection notification. UN Volunteer supporting SPI in the Europe and Central Asia region: The support provided by the UN Volunteer for tasks supporting the host UN entity in the region of Europe and Central Asia is a Special Programme Initiative (SPI) by UNV. SPIs respond to volunteer-specific needs of the United Nations system and donor entities. They are established by specific policy documents that address the desired programmatic aims and broader SDGsโ outcomes in line with UNV guiding principles. UN Volunteers for this SPI in the Europe and Central Asia region are governed by the particular conditions set out in their offers and contracts.
