The Strategy and Operations unit of the BIS Innovation Hub has an opportunity available for an Adviser to join the team.

The role is based in Basel, Switzerland, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the job:

The BISIH identifies critical trends in the technology space of interest and importance to the central banking community, develops new technological products that will serve as โ€œglobal public goodsโ€ to strengthen the functioning of the global financial system, and fosters a network of central bank experts on innovation.

The Adviser will support the coordinating role of the Strategy and Operations unit in the development and implementation of BISIH strategy and policy to guide the operations and innovation initiatives of the BISIH, and support other activities with BIS departments, central banks and external stakeholders.

Principal accountabilities:

Under the supervision of the Head of the BISIH and the Head of Strategy and Operations, the Adviser,

ยท Contributes to the development and implementation of BISIH policy and strategy to help guide operations and innovation initiatives;

ยท Prepares strategy and policy notes, research papers, reports, background notes and other documents on financial technology internally and for the BIS governing bodies, in close consultation with BISIH Centres;

ยท Prepares presentations and speeches for BIS and BISIH Management;

ยท Coordinates the work of the BIS Innovation Network (BISIN), collaborating closely among stakeholders, supporting and advising BISIN working groups and preparing plenary meetings and other events;

ยท Liaises with other BIS Departments, Committee Secretariats and the FSB Secretariat to advance work on issues relevant to the BISIH, and coordinates BISIH contributions to international work in the G20 and other contexts;

ยท Organises meetings, seminars, conferences and other outreach events, and liaises with external stakeholders on Hub-wide initiatives.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

ยท Degree in economics, finance, business administration or law combined with relevant professional experience.

ยท Knowledge of the central banking environment and processes, and of subject areas of importance to the BISIH.

ยท Knowledge of and/or hands-on experience with financial technology and/or policy and regulation in the innovation and fintech area as well as a good understanding of public policy issues.

ยท Very strong research, analytical and writing skills in English, and an ability to learn new subject areas quickly and autonomously.

ยท Sound knowledge of financial technologies and their implications for the functioning of the global financial system.

ยท Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.

ยท Personal initiative, high personal energy level, and multicultural sensitivity. A self-starter who will thrive in an innovative and collaborative workplace, who can think outside the box and has a passion for technological innovation and who enjoys working in flat, multidisciplinary teams.
