Org. Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages a $90+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 85% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This position is located in the Investment Accounting team of OIM. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Accountant (Alternative Investments), and general guidance of the Chief of Investment Accounting. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Accounting Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: โข Reviews, consolidates, and analyses source database and documents for completeness, accuracy and validity of alternative investments valuations. โข Investigates erroneous charges related to alternative investments and takes appropriate corrective actions. โข Ensures that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems related to alternative investments are functioning and that all relevant records/documents are maintained. โข Communicates with custodian and vendors regarding missing documentation or any other issues related to discrepancies. โข Reconciles and reviews capital call notice, distribution notice and accounts to ensure accuracy and proper procedures have been followed. โข Extracts details of income, expenditure, assets and liability from accounting system in order to analyze and verify accuracy and validity. โข Assists in compilation of data into financial statements. โข Assists with the monitoring of tax withholding on alternative investment, documentation requests for tax exemptions and communicating with internal and external action stakeholders. โข Prepares worksheets and assists with the preparation of financial statements. โข Audits various accounting transactions to ensure correctness and adherence to relevant financial regulations and rules or practices. โข Provides guidance and training to colleagues as required. โข Supervises other General Service staff as required. โข Drafts/prepares memoranda to various offices, departments and overseas offices. โข Responds to queries from auditors, staff members and third parties. โข Performs other duties as may be required. Knowledge of investment management database and/or platform is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
