Org. Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG is, in turn, assisted in this function by the Office of Investment Management (OIM). OIM manages approximately $95+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 85% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This position is located in the Investment Accounting Team of OIM. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Investment Accounting. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority and under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Investment Accounting Team, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: โ€ข Manages and oversees complete investment accounting functions, encompassing a wide variety of investment/asset classes, a large volume of transactions, income collection, tax receivables, drawdowns, management fees and corporate actions. โ€ข Approves/Confirms accounting adjusting entries for investment transactions in the Fundโ€™s general ledger system throughout the year. โ€ข Analyses and reviews Fundโ€™s investments reports, including real assets and alternative investments. Proposes/implements solutions with respect to problem transactions and irregularities. โ€ข Ensures that accurate and complete IPSAS accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant reports from record keeper are maintained and reviewed. โ€ข Compiles investments related financial statement disclosure for inclusion in the UNJSPF Financial Statements. โ€ข Responds to internal/external audit queries and observations. โ€ข Produces comprehensive and complex financial reports for management decision-making. โ€ข Provides substantive support to the development and implementation of new accounting systems and treatment of new investment instruments/asset classes in accordance with IPSAS. Takes initiative to improve accounting processes and approaches. โ€ข Provides data for the preparation of year-end closing process, including annual impairment review and withholding taxes receivables. โ€ข Identifies methods and collaborates to operationalize United Nations privileges and immunities in relation to tax on investment transactions. โ€ข Manages, guides, trains, supervises and evaluates performance of general service and professional staff in the function. โ€ข Performs other related duties as required. Experience in accounting and reporting for alternative investment is desirable. Experience in working on tax related matters of international tax-exempt Organizations is desirable. Experience in financial or accounting system implementation is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
