UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) – APAC Regional Analyst

Result of ServiceThe consultant will work on support with UNEP FI’s Secretariat to achieve UNEP FI’s mission to accelerate the development of financial institutions that integrate sustainability and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The consultant will focus specifically on Nature activities in the region, and function as the liasion between the Nature Team and the Regional Team. Therefore, for the specific work on Nature, the consultant will be reporting to the Nature Team. The outcomes of the services will be to strengthen the UNEP FI implementation support for the industry frameworks, helping the banking and insurance industries to integrate sustainability into products and services. Work LocationWorking remotely / Home-based Expected duration12 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 banks, insurers, and investors. For over 32 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards, and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams delivering resources to advance sustainable finance and regional activities, peer learning, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable. UNEP FI requires a consultant to support the Regional Lead on capacity building activities in the Asia-Pacific Region, and to engage with financial institutions in India and other countries in the region to support on outreach and stakeholder engagement. Specific Tasks and Responsibilities: The Consultant will carry out the following project tasks for UNEP FI. • Support in the development and implementation work plan for the region • Engage with financial institutions in India and other countries in the region to support on outreach and stakeholder engagement • Assist in updating and implementing the work plan and capacity building activities and contribute to the regional work programme, aligned with UNEP FI’s global work programme. • Support financial institutions on integrating Nature in their risk assessments and businesses opportunities. • Facilitate relationships with UNEP FI members and increase banking and insurance membership • Assist with regular communications with UNEP FI’s members via e-mails, conference calls, and in-person meetings; update the APAC regional section on UNEP FI’s website. • Support adoption and implementation of the Principles for Responsible Banking and Principles for Sustainable Insurance in APAC through peer exchanges and knowledge sharing Outputs and Deliverables: • Delivery of capacity-building events for financial institutions . • Support the delivery of regional capacity-building activities. • Support the expansion of PRB and PSI membership in the APAC Region The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head of UNEP FI and will be reporting directly to the Governance and Membership Team Lead. The consultant will work closely with the APAC UNEP FI Regional Lead. Qualifications/special skillsEducation: A master’s degree in sustainability or environment, finance, banking, economics, education, professional training and development, communications, international studies, project management, business administration or related fields is required. A bachelor’s degree may be accepted in lieu of a master’s degree, provided the candidate has 5 years of experience. Professional Experience: At least three (3) years’ experience within national, international organisations, NGO’s or private sector is required. Experience working with banks and /or financial institutions in India is required. The candidate should have successfully coordinated complex and, ideally, multi-stakeholder-based projects. Experience working in global contexts or with international organizations is an advantage. LanguagesLanguages: English is the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset. Additional InformationSkills & Knowledge: Knowledge and experience of working on sustainable finance; proven expertise in stakeholder engagement and coordination, proven skills in project and relationship management; ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a diplomatic, organised and timely manner; excellent communication (spoken and written) skills, ability to be proactive and work independently.
