The Opportunity

The Senior Conflict Specialist is a brand-new role within the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) team at Plan International.

In this role you will provide technical leadership across the organisation on strengthening our approach and work in fragile and conflict affected states ensuring staff at multiple levels (Country Office, Regional Office, Global Hub and Liaison Offices) get the support and guidance needed to position Plan International as an organisation that works in all contexts.

Specifically, the Senior Conflict Specialist will deliver global thought leadership and guidance of working in fragile and conflict affected areas as well as providing management and technical support to countries working in Conflict.

The post-holder will establish and support a technical network across the organization; promote learning and capacity building and generate lessons and learning from Country offices in order to inform and develop global guidance, models and positions for the organisation for working in conflict.

The Individual

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and committed Senior Conflict Specialist with significant experience of working in conflict and fragile affected states.

To be successful in this role you will require a conceptual understanding of conflict in work areas and conflict transformation and practical knowledge of implementation of programming in conflict areas involving children. Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law & armed groups will also be key to success.

The Senior Conflict Specialist will need to demonstrable a commitment to gender equality and a proven ability of using international mechanisms for coordination and funding.

The role requires a confident networker and an independent problem-solver with key contacts in the institutions and understanding of the politics and systems for conflict work internationally.

Ability to speak and work in French and/or Spanish is desirable but not essential.

Location: Based in Woking at Plan International Global Hub or alternatively other locations where Plan International currently has a legal entity and you have the existing right to work may also be considered

Type of Role: 1-year fixed term contract
