Position Overview:
The Epidemiology-Biostatistics Division seeks a talented and strongly self- motivated individual to fill a Postdoctoral Scholar position for a grant-funded study on the public health impacts of violence against healthcare in Syria during the conflict. The selected Postdoctoral Scholar candidate is expected to have strong epidemiological and data science skills to ensure a comprehensive analysis and presentation of complex data. The selected Postdoctoral Scholar candidate will be expected to undertake data analysis and visualization, prepare conference abstracts and presentations, generate peer-reviewed manuscripts, and develop and implement funded research studies. There will be rich research opportunities to gain significant epidemiological research-related experience on cutting-edge topics and travel to the field to work directly with public health workers. The selected Postdoctoral Scholar candidate will work with the principal investigator, other project faculty, and the rest of the research team to help achieve the project goals. The initial appointment is for one year, full-time with the possibility of renewal based on performance and the availability of funding. The total duration of an individual's postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at other institutions.

Responsibilities:
During the appointment period, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  1. Work on existing funded research project evaluating quantitative data on the public health impacts of violence against healthcare in Syria.
  2. Utilize epidemiological, bio-statistical and data science-based models and visualizations to better understand and explore conflict-driven public health impacts.
  3. Work effectively independently and with multiple international research partners.
  4. Collate, clean, and analyze diverse datasets from multiple partners.
  5. Prepare manuscripts, write reports, and give presentations as part of the research team.

Applicants will be competitively evaluated based on previous experience and skills with epidemiological and data science, scholarly potential to conduct high impact research, and the ability to be innovative and creative with the work and collaborative with the research team. We seek diverse applicants who have a strong commitment to global health research, focused motivation, and an academic record that demonstrates a high level of intellectual achievement and curiosity.

Basic Qualifications (required at the time of application):
Completion of Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree-granting program) at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications:
Finalist must have completed doctoral training (Ph.D. or other equivalent international degree) by appointment start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in one of a variety of fields, including but not limited to epidemiology, biostatistics, or data science.
  • strong epidemiological and data science skills are expected.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience in writing manuscripts and publishing peer reviewed articles.
  • Strong qualitative and/or quantitative research skills.
  • Experience using R, Python, and Tableau for both data management and analysis.
  • Professional working proficiency in Arabic language reading and speaking skills.
  • Interest and/or previous training or experience in global health.
