Advocacy present major part of UNICEF activities in Azerbaijan, both in policy dialogue, public information/media relations and communication for social change.

Digital engagement plays an important role in UNICEF's response to global shifts in the fields of communication, advocacy and development. Use of digital media platforms helps position UNICEF in Azerbaijan as a knowledge leader, expands outreach and broadens engagement around children's rights.

How can you make a difference?


Under the guidance and supervision of the Communication and Partnership Specialist, the consultant will assist UNICEF Azerbaijan Country Office in (1) development and production of multimedia content in order to increase media reach & visibility effectiveness, (2) Assist in developing and maintaining close collaboration with organizations and individuals whose support is essential to promote children’s rights, in particular media

Key assignment and tasks

Proactively create editorial content (stories, photos, advocacy images, contests, campaigns, audio, video, infographics, etc.) in cooperation with Communication Team and UNICEF programme officers and adapt for media pitching, web and social media, posting daily to respective channels; Adapt multimedia assets from HQ Division of Communication for the local audience.

Payment will only be made for work satisfactorily completed and accepted by UNICEF. A monthly report will be submitted to the direct supervisor. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold all or a portion of payment if performance is unsatisfactory, if work/outputs is incomplete, not delivered or for failure to meet deadlines. All materials developed will remain the copyright of UNICEF and UNICEF will be free to adapt and modify them in the future.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…


- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, marketing, social science, communication or a related field.

Work experience

- At least 3 years of experience in journalism and/or writing features for the web;

- Demonstrated experience in maintaining social media accounts, especially Facebook, as well as experience with new media executions, preferably with a development organization; knowledge and understanding of local and global digital landscape and trends;

- Experience with graphic design, ability to create designs for digital media purposes in open source graphic design programmes; Ability to integrate PR/communication initiatives with social media;

- Experience developing compelling content to generate response from audiences online; - Experience in reporting on qualitative and quantitative analytics;

- Ability to take quality photographs and basic photo editing skills;

- Previous UNICEF, UN and/or INGO experience in a similar role is highly desirable; Strong photographic skills is an asset; Demonstrated ability to write clear, articulate correspondence and communicate well (written and oral); basic research and analytical skills.

Language Proficiency

-Fluency in both written and spoken Azerbaijan and English is essential. Russian is desirable.

The contractor will be direct supervised by Communication and Partnership Specialist of UNICEF with overall supervision of the Representative.

TRAVEL may be required. Travel expenses will be covered in accordance with UNICEF DSA rates
