This internship position is based in the Forests, Land and Housing Division in the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).Responsibilities
The interns will assist the UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section on work related to forest policy, governance and analysis such as:
Forestry Policy Dialogue:
Reporting on forest relevant indicators for the reporting on Sustainable Development Goals;
Develop of national forestry dialogues, as well as background support for the regional and national coordination of forestry policies;
Analyse the impact of forest policy in the past 15 years in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS);
Assist the secretariat to service Teams of Specialists on Forest Policy and Forest Sector Outlook.
Green Economy from a forest policy perspective:
Reviewing actions taken to support a green economy and the progress made toward achieving the goals;
Analyse how the idea of a green economy influences real policy making;
Improve measuring the progress made by the forest sector in its contribution towards a greener economy.
•Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services;
Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
Staff within work unit/section and peers in department/regional commission; staff of other international organizations working on related issues; academics and representatives of civil society, both NGOs and the business community.
The intern successfully provides support to:
-the organization of workshops, seminars and trainings for experts to exchange on forest sector outlook;
-the modelling and related research and topics on forest sector outlook;
-the organization of capacity building activities;
-following-up on meetings with preparation of reports, news releases, etc.;
-communicating with relevant stakeholders and keeping them informed about developments in this area and involving them in the process;
-other activities of the UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section as required;
-all other facets of the work of the secretariat as assigned.

Experience in MS Excel and Word a plus.
To qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme, applicants must, at the time of application, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master’s degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree) in the area of forestry, business, economics or related field, OR have graduated with a university as defined above AND, if selected, must commence the internship within one-year period from the date of graduation.Work Experience
