Under the direct supervision and guidance of the R2R Project Manager the officer will be required to maintain high quality standard in the maintenance of all IT equipment used by the ridge to Reef project, contribute to the development and maintenance of a website page for information sharing and dissemination as well as develop communication tools for the project.

The Project Manager and UNDP will assess his/her performances on an annual basis.

Summary of key function:

  • Implementation of communications strategy and outreach
  • Work closely with the UNDP Country Office, Regional Hub in Bangkok and the Headquarters in New York to ensure effective communication of the project activities to the relevant parties
  • Provide technical assistance to the 3 divisional offices with Information Technology (IT) ends user support.
  • Identify and develop requirements and specifications to procure hardware/IT products as per the needs of the project team members.

Implementation communication strategy and outreach

  • Regular project updates (at least once a week), to social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc)
  • Periodic project progress updates (at least once a quarter) for key stakeholders, in a newsletter or other format
  • External outreach to local and regional media (as well as coordination with Bangkok Regional Hub for global coverage)
  • Event-based outreach at national, regional and international events
  • Communications with project partners and stakeholders to ensure they aware of the project and its progress, and that there is a mechanism for feedback. 
  • rovide input to the Annual Work Planning process to ensure that sufficient resources are secured to carry out activities to implement the Communication Strategy;
  • Drafting content for the Fiji R2R project website as well as drafting/providing inputs into press releases, stories and blogs for events and website;
  • Developing and updating the project factsheet
  • Support the Project Manager in procuring necessary human resource or material inputs for implementing the Communication Strategy, including identifying the required inputs;
  • Create a roster of trusted vendors required to implement the strategy;
  • Establish a database of all internal and external communication materials with a corresponding file management system;
  • Act as the media focal point for the project.
  • Produce a quarterly communications report on media coverage, online metrics (website and social media) and other;
  • Capture high-quality photos and videos documenting the progress of the project

Work closely with the UNDP Country Office, Regional Hub in Bangkok and the Headquarters in New York to ensure effective communication of the project activities to the relevant parties

  • Ensure that the Project Communication Strategy and its implementation is aligned with the CO communication strategy and plan;
  • Ensure results-based reporting towards donors;
  • Ensure that all print, digital and audio publications and communication materials are in alignment with UNDP publication guidelines and that of donor partners (including logo placement and donor acknowledgement across products);
  • Produce a range of communications products – including web and social media updates, videos, photos, human interest stories, news articles and printed materials – to ensure maximum exposure of the Fiji R2R Project, (donor), partners, UNDP in particular, the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji;
  • Coordinates the norms for publishing and design and;
  • Produce communication materials that demonstrate the contributions of the project towards key development goals such as the Sustainable Development Goals.

Provide technical assistance to the 3 divisional offices with Information Technology (IT) ends user support

  • Facilitate queries to respective PMU officers from outside the office in regards to the project IT queries and needs

Identify and develop requirements and specifications to procure hardware/IT products as per the needs of the project team members

  • Performs tasks pertaining to IT and operate standard office equipment (photocopier, telephone, faxes etc) and;
  • Able to give good advise on IT equipment procurement getting the best for the value offered.

At least an undergraduate degree in journalism, media studies, communication, social science, political science, international relations or a related field.·At least 4 years of relevant experience at the national, in public relations, communications or advocacy related to development and/or climate change. Proven experience in writing about results from development; Previous experience with a multilateral organization is helpful but not mandatory. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, especially the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems. Proven experience in creating content for social media.[Excellent written and oral communication skills; Fluency in English is required
