Position: KJC and Breeder Farm Manager

Position background:

KJC Farm is a social business project run by registered NGO Dana Asia-Cambodia. Through collaboration with local and international partners, KJC has established biosecure facilities and a flock of high-quality chickens to sell into local market. KJC employs villagers from impoverished backgrounds and provides them with poultry rearing training and hands-on experience aligned with accredited Australian standards.

To establish a sustainable and reliable source of fertile eggs to supply day old chickens to both KJC Farm and Dana Asia’s village outgrower project, a new rearing & parent breeding farm is being set up which will house the laying flock. The fertile eggs will be transported to our hatchery, incubated and hatched, the chicks will then be supplied to the small-scale growers around Siem Reap province whom are chosen and trained by KJC.

This position will oversee both farm operations.

Position purpose:

To oversee the management of KJC and Breeder Farm operations, ensuring best practice poultry rearing and biosecurity is achieved.

Main duties:

KJC Farm:

  1. Oversee the management of KJC Farm operations

  2. Line-manage and provide support to the KJC Farm Supervisor

  3. Prepare reports as necessary for the local board and senior management

  4. Oversee the KJC Farm biosecurity program, ensuring the strictest compliance with all health and biosecurity standards from all farm team and any visitors to the farm.

  5. Oversee and manage the overall cleanliness and work health and safety standards of the farm, implement an effective maintenance plan and maintain all equipment on the farm in good working condition.

  6. Coordinate with the farm’s international technical advisors to ensure best practice on KJC Farm.

  7. Advise senior management team on the development needs of KJC Farm.

Breeder Farm:

  1. Oversee the management of Breeder Farm operations

  2. Line-manage and provide support to the Breeder Farm Supervisor

  3. Prepare reports as necessary for the local board and senior management

  4. Oversee the Breeder Farm biosecurity program, ensuring the strictest compliance with all health and biosecurity standards from all farm team and any visitors to the farm.

  5. Oversee and manage the overall cleanliness and work health and safety standards of the farm, implement an effective maintenance plan and maintain all equipment on the farm in good working condition.

  6. Coordinate with the farm’s international technical advisors to ensure best practice on the Breeder Farm.

  7. Advise senior management team on the development needs of the Breeder Farm.

General management

  1. Be a senior team member and work directly with the local board and Dana Asia management to ensure strict biosecurity compliance and good management practice to meet all commercial and ethical standards and practices to ensure successful development of this important social business.

  2. Be an active member of management team meetings and make decisions on behalf of KJC and the Breeder Farm, providing valuable experience and input as may be reasonably required.

Reporting:

  1. Prepare a work log of timelines and forecasting for farm production for both KJC Farm and the Breeder Farm.

  2. Provide daily/weekly/monthly reports on farm activities as required by senior management, including reports for quarterly advisory committee meetings.

  3. Prepare for and actively contribute to management and farm team meetings, preparing reports as required.

  4. Ensure, together with the other relevant co-workers, that administration and maintaining record keeping of the highest standard is sufficient and kept up to date.

  5. Ensure, together with the other relevant co-workers, that compliance with government regulations is kept at all times, preparing any reports and registration documentation where necessary.

Experience and skills desired:

  • Khmer national preferred but other nationalities considered

  • Competent English speaker

  • Advanced experience in poultry farming

  • Experience in managing teams in a similar context and show clear leadership skills. The person will demonstrate clear ability to be a team leader.

  • Strong communication skills and be able to provide clear and effective instructions to team members whilst being also able to effectively communicate upwards to senior management

  • Competent computer skills, including all Microsoft Office are essential for the job

  • Be a strong initiative taker whilst having an eye for detail
