Every year, millions of people around the world go missing as a result of conflict, human rights abuses, disasters, organized crime, irregular migration, and other causes. This is a complex global challenge that can be tackled effectively through cross-cutting programs that address a variety of difficult, interconnected issues.
The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is the only international organization tasked exclusively to work on the issue of missing persons. Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of DNA Laboratory, the DNA Analyst duties and responsibilities will include, but will not necessarily be limited to, the following:
To maintain laboratory competencies or skills, in one or more of the following (80%):
Analyzing and interpreting DNA profiles;
Submitting genetic data for matching;
Performing matching of STR profiles, in a blind or targeted manner, as required;
Perform pedigree based statistical calculations of DNA matches and issuing of DNA reports;
Matching report review;
Completing statistical analyses;
Completing external proficiency testing.
Assist with the development of standard operating procedures and assistance with the support of ICMP’s quality management system (10%);
Other related duties as assigned (10%).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or similar field of science. Graduate degree preferred;
- One to two years of relevant professional experience;
- Experience with genetic analysis using programs such as GeneMapper IDX, particularly DNA profiles resulting from bone samples;
- Experience in other areas of the DNA laboratory;
- Attention to detail;
- Effective organizational skills;
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English;
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Power Point;
- Ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality, religion or gender;
- Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, when necessary.
This is a full time position with a competitive base salary at the T2 level on the ICMP Technical staff salary scale, generous paid leave and extensive health insurance benefits for the incumbent and any eligible dependent.
This is position is not entitled to the expatriate allowances.
