The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity

Plan employs around 10,000 people in over 50 Country Offices, working with over 50,000 communities. Our total income in the 2018 financial year was €851 million, with our funds coming from two main sources: child sponsorship which is regular income from individual donors around the world, and grants income which comes from organisations and businesses. We also raised funds to respond to disasters and for campaigns.

We are implementing a new global strategy with the aim of becoming the world's foremost organisation for girls. Against this backdrop, we are working to transform how we operate, through modernising our operating model, business processes, systems and the way we work through a portfolio of complex change projects.

We are therefore looking for a senior Finance professional to work across the Plan family to develop, oversee and implement key finance initiatives that strengthen financial performance and the financial sustainability of the organisation. Specifically, the Director of Finance Initiatives will:

· Design, drive, oversee and implement key initiatives to strengthen financial sustainability across the Plan family

· Regularly analyse financial capability, process and systems required to optimise, adapt and sustain the Funding Model

· Develop, with the Executive Director, a Finance Strategy setting direction for the department to strengthen the financial sustainability of the organisation.

· Engage externally and assess the changing financial landscape to ensure Plan continues to develop and adapt

· Lead cross organisational implementation of the endorsed Members Assembly Funding Model Package

· Engage in active stakeholder management, communication, socialisation through further design and implementation of the Funding Model to ensure buy-in.

· Ensure that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded

This is an exciting and highly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting and sustained impact across the organisation.

The Individual

We are seeking to appoint a Finance professional with extensive financial background, qualification and experience with the ability to develop initiatives to create broad financial capability. Specifically, you will need a strong understanding of Funding Models and ways of working within the Development/Humanitarian sector and experience of working in different countries, including the developing world, and as such possess a solid understanding of the context, culture and financial capacity within these setting.

To be successful in this role you will need the ability to interact with and influence a diverse stakeholder group representing a broad range of cultures, adapting your behaviours and style to gain sufficient political credibility to work across all layers in the organization, including senior leadership.

We are seeking an excellent project manager and confident and precise communicator who will use their advanced analytical skills and a passion for data-driven decision making to work relentlessly to drive forward change and make a lasting impact.
