Role summary

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting in the Program Finance & Controlling Department. He/She supports the accounting, reconciliation and reporting processes of leading to the finalization and audit of the consolidated financial statements of the Global Fund. The basis of compliance is the International Financial Reporting Standards, IFRS.



  • Based on the signed grant agreements with the implementing partners, ADMFs and cash transfer schedules, ensure that the accounting for grant expense, liability and disbursements is correctly recorded in the General Ledger and underlying sub-ledgers.
  • In consultation with the Recoveries Officer, determine the recognition of the value of grants recoverable from implementing partners, along with an adequate provision for risk of non-recovery.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation on grants accounting, including the any fair valuation assessments and consistency checks.
  • Lead all audit interventions on grants, external and OIG, including preparing of audit schedules, coordinating and responding to audit queries.
  • Support the Accounting Specialist on Hyperion reconciliations for grant workstreams.

Development and maintenance of accounting policy

  • Engage in general accounting and financial reporting work streams and be able to act as a back-up support for absence and turnover within the Accounting team.
  • Engage in design and implementation of systems solutions to support the accounting of new business initiatives or necessary enhancements. Support the accounting leadership in undertaking research on the corporate accounting treatment for emerging business initiatives.
  • Maintain and update the existing accounting policy and procedures for providing benchmark for audit and assurance reviews.
  • Act as back-up support within the Accounting team during peak-audit periods, special projects and absences.
  • Any other task that may be assigned by the Manager.



  • Finance or accounting qualification (professional qualification such as a Chartered Accountant, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Analyst, Fédération des Experts-comptables Européens) or Brevet.
  • For uncertified accounting professionals, an advanced university degree in accounting or financial management with over 5 years of post-qualification accounting work experience.



  • Experience of multicurrency accounting and reporting in an international organization within an ERP environment.


  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting or audit post-qualification experience in large, international organizations.
  • At least 5 years ERP hands-on experience in General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Project Accounting and a good understanding of Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets and Cash Management.
  • Previous experience in financial management planning and reporting applications (Fusion Accounting Hub; Hyperion.)
  • Evidence of knowledge of implementing or maintaining Internal Control systems, such as COSO or Sarbanes-Oxley requirements (SOX).



An excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is required. French would be an advantage and knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
