Setting and ReportingThese positions are located within the Commission on the situation in the North and South Kivu provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), pursuant of the Human Rights Council resolution A/HRC/RES/60/22, based in Kinshasa. The incumbent will report to the Coordinator of the Commission. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Associate Interpreters will be responsible for the following duties: โข Provide accurate translation and simultaneous interpretation as required, from Swahili/Lingala to French and vice versa. โข Participate in field missions and interprets interviews of victims, witnesses and sources. โข Assist in the production of accurate and verbatim translation of written and oral witness statements, media articles and other documents from Swahili/Lingala to French and vice versa as required. โข Maintain strict security and confidentiality of information; โข May check verbatim records of meetings services to ensure that there is no significant difference between the interpreted and original language versions of speeches and statements that have been recorded. โข Perform other related duties as required. Work ExperienceA minimum of 2 years of work experience in translation and/or interpretation, including as part of academic research work, is required. One year of work experience in these fields within the United Nations Common Systems or regional organizations is desirable. Experience in providing translation or interpretation to human rights investigations or on human rights-related subjects is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, French is required. Either Swahili or Lingala is required.
