DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WMO is in the process of establishing a network of National Focal Points on Radio Frequency (RF) matters with the aim:

1. To enhance the capabilities of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and other institutions with relevant mandates worldwide in addressing RF-related issues.

2. To foster close communication between NMHSs and their respective National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the importance and requirements of radio frequencies for meteorological and related environmental activities.

Under the supervision of the Head, Space Systems and Utilization (SSU) Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Assisting national focal points on RF matters in developing the necessary expertise and skills to fulfil their responsibilities:
- Addressing technical inquiries from national focal points on RF matters via correspondence and one-on- one online meetings (as required);
- Supporting the WMO Secretariat in implementing the engagement strategy for national focal points on RF matters.

2. Coordination of training activities for national focal points on RF matters:
- Online meetings for nominated focal points on RF matters organized on a regional basis;
- Regional ITU/WMO workshops.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Master’s degree or equivalent in the field of engineering.

Experience
A minimum of 10 years of experience in radio frequency related activities, international collaboration in the context of the Radiocommunication Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R), and in particular of the Radiocommunication Study Groups, on frequency matters pertaining to meteorological and related activities, as well as knowledge of the WMO framework.

Other requirements
ITU Radio Regulations, use of radio spectrum for meteorological and related activities, key principles of spectrum management, activities related to preparations for WRCs.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
Possibility of renewal extension based on WMO-RFC priorities.
