The Opportunity

Plan has been working in Laos since 2007, and is delivering programs in Bokeo, Oudomxay and Saravane Provinces. We support children to access their rights through our programming in Public Heath (including water and sanitation), Education, and Gender Equality and Protection. Our work includes community based action, partner strengthening, and policy advocacy. Disaster risk reduction is integrated in all the work we do, and Plan is committed to providing disaster response support in case of humanitarian disaster.

The Adolescent Education and Skills Program for Plan Laos focuses on supporting the new Global Strategy to “strive for a just world that advances children’s rights and equality for girls”. Under the strategy, Plan International seeks to transform the lives of 100 million girls. The Adolescent program is designed to transform the underlying social norms that contribute to high rates of adolescent pregnancies and child marriage, and to empower adolescents to realise their rights to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, advice and services.

Plan Laos currently leads four adolescent projects in Oudomxay and Bokeo Provinces. The four projects are implemented in partnership the Ministry of Education and four Non-profit Associations. The projects take a comprehensive approach to developing support for gender equality, valuing young people’s participation and leadership, and adolescent SRH and Rights amongst adolescents themselves, community members, and community leadership. These projects seek to promote attitude and behaviour change through a set of mutually re-enforcing actions at school, community and individual levels. Lastly the projects will work with and build the capacity of government and civil society partners.
