The Global Infrastructure Section is one of the four pillars of the Global Mobility and Infrastructure Service (GMIS) within the Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM). The main objective of the Section is to ensure centrally coordinated office facilities management and to provide engineering services to all UNHCR operations, enabling sustainable, equitable and healthy workspaces that meet the needs of staff.
As part of the Section, the Global Facilities Support Team in Budapest provides technical expertise in engineering, guidance on property acquisition and leasing of premises, and facilities management as well as monitoring and recording of UNHCRโs network of field offices.
The position of Data Management Intern is to support the operationalization of the newly launched Oracle UNIFIER facilities database platform. This software application is designed to collect critical facilities information from 600 UNHCR offices of various types and sizes globally, some of which are active in emergency contexts. The data consists of various technical, financial, sustainability, utilities and accessibility data of UNHCR office facilities.
During the internship the incumbent will acquire the following:
โข Knowledge on UNHCRโs mandate, programs and activities at HQ and in the field.
โข Knowledge on GIS strategy for improving the working environment of colleagues working in UNHCR office premises in HQ and the world.
โข Experience of coordination, information collection and report drafting.
Duties and responsibilities
Assist the Global Infrastructure Section in providing support on data collection and data management related to the UNIFIER project:
1. Support to UNIFIER's data activities
โข Liaison tasks with operations focal points to ensure data completion;
โข Obtaining and managing office premises data;
โข Data quality assurance;
โข Spot checks and verification exercises;
โข Data analysis and visualization.
2. Assist in developing UNIFIER project visibility, as well as internal and external communication strategies and actions.
3. Assist in database administration and user management.
4. Support the team on advocating for Global Infrastructure Section initiatives.
5. A further work stream is to research and establish a repository of information relevant to facility managers.
6. Provide any other required support, including administrative support to the teamโs staff.
Area of work may be adapted in the course of the internship to better fit the internโs interests and profile as well as the Sectionโs needs.
Eligibility
โข Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
โข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
โข Please note that candidates who have immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working as staff members, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce of UNHCR are not eligible.
โข Recruitment as a UNHCR staff member and engagement under a UNHCR affiliate scheme or as an intern is subject to proof of full vaccination, independently of contract type and duration, unless the candidate is based in a location with documented lack of access to COVID-19 vaccines
Desirable qualifications and skills
We are looking for a driven, resourceful, and tech-savvy individual with an interest in data management, analytics and visualization. The candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
โข Degree or specific studies in Information Systems, Data Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Information Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Statistics, Business Administration; Finance; or other closely relevant field.
โข Excellent English oral and writing skills are required. Working knowledge of a second UN official language is an asset.
โข Skills to support the creation of content, templates, dashboards and presentations using the MS Office suite and other software as appropriate. PowerBI is desirable.
โข Familiarity or experience with data collection and data analysis of data.
โข Accountability, communication, teamwork and collaboration, commitment to continuous learning, client and result orientation skills.
โข Planning and organizing competencies.
Location
The successful candidate will be based with in Budapest. However, remote work is also a possibility.
